Since 1979, Tulsa Life Flight, based out of Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center, has served the communities in and around eastern Oklahoma by providing helicopter air ambulance and ground MICU critical care patient transports. We respond to scenes and hospital to hospital requests for critical care patient transports.
All of Tulsa Life Flight's flight nurses are also trained and licensed as nationally registered Paramedics. All Tulsa Life Flight medical crews must meet stringent requirements for maintaining skills proficiency, under the direction of Tulsa Life Flight's Medical Director, Dr. Lori Whelan, M.D. All Tulsa Life Flight medical crews must maintain numerous certifications including ACLS, PALS, ATLS, PTLS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP and several other continuing education programs.
Tulsa Life Flight medical crews stay on the cutting edge of technology and medical treatment for your patients through our 100 percent continuing quality improvement and monthly continuing education.
Our medical crews routinely perform lifesaving procedures in the field. Tulsa Life Flight is the ONLY helicopter ambulance program in a three-state region that carries blood to all trauma scenes and indicated medical transports. Advanced pharmacology is also available to obtain and maintain patient airways, tissue perfusion and pain control.

The safety of our patients and crew is of the utmost importance at Tulsa Life Flight. Our helicopters, pilots and mechanics are contracted through the Air Methods Corp., which provides continuous mandatory training for its employees. Air Methods extends its expertise to the entire Tulsa Life Flight crew by providing nationally recognized speakers on safety issues and crew resource management issues.
Daily inspections and routine maintenance of the helicopters and mobile intensive care units contribute to Tulsa Life Flight’s continued success and safety record.
Tulsa Life Flight also provides transportation for the Saint Francis Hospital Eastern Oklahoma Perinatal Center (EOPC) and the St. John Medical Center NICU neonatal transport teams. Both of these highly specialized teams utilize our aircraft and MICU for their patient transports.
We often provide Tulsa and surrounding communities with information about Tulsa Life Flight and helicopter safety. We can send our PR team out to your Police, Fire, and EMS agencies . We bring the MICU and Aircraft - weather and availability permitting - to show and teach you about air and ground critical care patient transports and safety.
